Venture off a bumpy, unpaved earth road, past some carabao and onwards down to Duli Beach. It's wild. It's unexplored. There's a surf break. And a surprise awaits: Taran Beach Club.

Scattered along this 2km stretch of golden sand are a few surf rental shacks, a sprinkling of hand-poke tattoo places and now – set back from the beach, its cathedral-like curves offset by a concrete structure – the latest offering from Tao. Taran Beach Club is the beat of a drum, calling you to play and offering curated stays in simple sleeping pods.

Body movement and sound, surfing (in season) and healthy food are all on offer – a tangy, smoky kinilaw (a traditional raw seafood dish) is the star of the show. But it’s all up to you. Because Taran is also about community and connection. And each evening, as the sun goes down, the music starts. There are only 20 beds, so don’t tell everyone.
