Philippines arrival checklist

Flights, visas and entry requirements

Arrival checklist

From flights and visas to SIM cards and cash, here's everything you need to know to make your arrival in the Philippines smooth and stress-free.

1. Flights

Book your international flight to Manila, the capital of the Philippines. There are also international arrivals into Cebu and Clark (north of Manila).

2. Passport and entry

Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in the Philippines. You'll also need to show proof of onward or return travel.

3. E-travel pass

Fill this out on a desktop or laptop computer before you fly, saving the QR code to show at immigration. The mobile version can be tricky and time-consuming so do it before you set off.

4. Visas

Visitors from most countries receive a 30-day tourist visa on arrival. Extensions are available at immigration offices in Manila, Cebu and Puerto Princesa.

5. Money matters

The Philippines is largely a cash economy. Withdraw pesos from ATMs at Manila Airport before flying to Palawan. Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are accepted at larger hotels, including Tao.

6. SIM cards and connectivity

Pick up a SIM card at Manila Airport or get an eSIM. Signal can be intermittent and unpredictable, so use it as a chance to unwind and enjoy a digital detox during your Tao adventure.

7. Travel insurance

You must have your own travel insurance. You'll be exploring remote islands, so make sure your policy covers medical emergencies, theft and loss, flight delays and water activities.

8. Useful apps to download

For transport, get Google Maps offline; for mobile payments, GCash.
